Stay Down
My BFF and I don’t usually agree on music. The last thing she recommended what Jill Scott’s latest CD and I wanted to crack her in the head. I usually like a few of Scott’s songs, but I found her latest CD very … psalm of the single woman. Naturally, when she told me I’d like Mary J. Blige’s new CD, I showed a great deal of reticence. She convinced me, however, to at least spend the 99 cents at itunes.com and listen to the track called Stay Down. Figuring I would just steal the dollar out of her purse when I saw her next, I did. I LOVED IT! The song is about sticking it out in your marriage, even when every instinct tells you to cut and run. Blige croons that someday you’ll look back at what used to be considered hard times, and be glad that you “stayed down.” Kudos to MJB. I’m not usually a fan of hers, but that song made my day. It also made its way onto my ipod, and I’ve listened to it every day since.
